green vaginal discharge normally indicates a vaginal infection.
vaginal infections may be transmitted during sex and some can also be acquired by using the same damp towel as an affected person. When green vaginal discharge is present, it may indicate problems present such as cervical dysplasia. green vaginal discharge could be due to Trichomoniasis, a condition transmitted through sexual intercourse caused by the parasite trichomonas vaginalis. If left untreated, the long-standing infection may alter the tissue of the vaginal surface. Symptoms of this may be vaginal itching, swelling of the labia and discomfort whilst having sex. The vaginal discharge may be thin, greenish-yellow in color, frothy/foamy and may have a strong odor. Metronidazole, an anti-infective drug is commonly used to treat this infection. This condition responds well to Metronidazole. green vaginal discharge may also be a symptom of a skin disorder called Lichen Sclerosus, this is discovered by skin changes that occur on the vulva, appearances of small white patches on the skin may be noted. Later these spots grow and the skin on the patches changes becomes thin and wrinkled, this allows the skin to tear easily, bright red or purple bruises are quite common. Scarring may also occur. In mild cases, symptoms may not even be present. Lichen sclerosus may also cause vaginal itching and pain.
